Tomato Mushroom Penne with Garlic Bread

    Combine the tomatoes, butter, onion half, and salt in a saucepan. Crush the tomatoes with a spoon.

    Simmer gently for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.

    Meanwhile, brown the mushrooms in a skillet and boil the penne until tender, reserving 1/2 cup pasta water before draining.

    Discard the onion. Toss the penne and mushrooms with the sauce and enough pasta water to make it glossy. Serve with hot garlic bread.
