  1. 01

Cook spaghetti in well-salted water, adding the broccoli for the final 5 minutes. Reserve 1 cup cooking water and drain.

  2. 02

Return the pot to medium heat and cook garlic and red pepper flakes in olive oil until fragrant, about 1 minute.

  3. 03

Return spaghetti and broccoli and toss vigorously, crushing some broccoli and adding cooking water until glossy.

  4. 04

Finish with lemon juice, salt, and black pepper.

Useful swaps

  • Use short pasta instead of spaghetti.
  • Omit red pepper flakes for a milder family dinner.

Why this is a good weeknight call

It keeps the cleanup to one main pan. The ingredient list stays focused, and the recipe has a clear stopping point instead of extra optional projects.
